Boca Inimbari

I just got back from a week-long mission trip to the Jungles of Peru. I used to live and serve there as a missionary for two years, and it was an incredible blessing to have the opportunity to return. I will blog later about the specifics of the week (once I catch up on all of my Greek homework), but for now, I will show you a quick glance at the spot of the jungle where I was.

Be sure to scroll all the way down to see it a little bit closer. The Green square clearing to the right of the star is essentially the village.

It is an Amarakaeri village called Boca Inimbari.

Definition Inspiration
What inspires us? What sparks creativity? What fills your mind with thoughts and sends you home itching to write or paint or create for the rest of the night. Many of my friends are artists as they write stories and studies and songs. Many of my friends constantly challenge with original thought about life, God and love.

I sometimes wonder what it is that inspires them.

I too love to write and journal and think and observe and reflect on all that I see and imagine. It’s a creative process that I adore and sometimes, during seasons that find stimuli lacking, long for its return. What is it though that ignites imaginative composition?

For me, it can be a line in a movie, the melody of a song, a word from the Lord, or just the appearance of the sky that day.

Last Saturday night, Jessica and I went to a
Shawn McDonald concert. We have listened to him for a while now and were excited about the opportunity to see him play live. He did not disappoint.

The surprise of the night, however, came in the form of Alli Rogers. She opened up for Shawn McDonald. We had never heard her music, but she was fantastic. She had a laid-back acoustic sound with great lyrics. I found my mind stimulated with original thoughts and questions and ideas. I found myself wishing I had a journal close by that I could just start writing. I don’t know why her music seemed inspiring to me. If I were to hear it again, it would, perhaps, not have the same effect. For that night though, it surely did.
