Second Chance Prom
07/10/08 17:06

Jess and I will leave in the morning for a weekend-getaway to the Galveston beach in order to celebrate our second anniversary. Our actual anniversary, however, was this past Tuesday, July 8th. Jess told me earlier in the week that she wanted to celebrate Tuesday by giving me surprises throughout the day. I had no idea what was coming.
We woke up that morning and Jess immediately revealed her first surprise by cooking me my favorite breakfast. I proceeded to deliver a few of my surprises for her, namely, some roses, candy, and her favorite: a cookie bouquet. She then said that I could choose to do anything I wanted for the rest of our morning and afternoon dates. So, we went to our favorite spot on the Trinity Trails and played around by the river, taking pictures and throwing the football. We ate lunch at Panera Bread and then saw the new Will Smith movie at the mall. Then came the big surprise.
Jess said she need some time to "set up," so I went and read at Starbucks for awhile. Two hours later, she called me and said to check the mail and then come home. In our mailbox, I found a very formal invitation to a "Second Chance Prom." When: 8 p.m. Where: Our Apartment. Why: "Because I should have said yes the first time." You see, I had asked Jessica to go to my senior prom with me 10 years ago and she casually and definitively said no. So on Tuesday night, in celebration of our second anniversary, we had our second chance prom.
I walked in the door and Jess was there to meet me in the most beautiful dress, so alluring that you'd think she could solve all the world's problems in a second just by walking in the room and smiling--gas prices, Iraq war, global warming, Tony Romo's social life--all fixed just like that.
The apartment was decorated with lights and candles as music played softly in the background by the dance floor. Jess had prepared a dinner perfect for the romantic evening that found us celebrating, eating, laughing, exchanging cards and presents, dancing, and simply making up for the famous "lost prom" of 1998.
I was honored. She was beautiful. It was perfect.
