Thanksgiving Wrap-Up

Jess
and I celebrated in style this year with a lengthy
road trip that led us all around the country.
We began our holiday in East Texas (Longview) with Jess' parents and Joey and Nicole. We ate delicious food, hung Christmas lights, played football, put together puzzles, played some games, watched football, and ate some more. I think the girls found some time to shop as well.

Following this adventure, Jess and I then embarked on an even longer journey to East Tennessee. Thirteen hours later, we arrived. Both sides of my family (pretty much all of my grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins) were there for our 3rd annual Thanksgiving feast. My parents as well as Brian, Brooke & Ainsley also made the trip. The turkey dinners were wonderful, as was the fellowship set to the backdrop of early morning Starbucks runs, Levenger games, the Cowboys game, a huge 7-on-7 football game (in which my wife joined my dad and brother in order to soundly beat me and the rest of my team by more than just a few touchdowns), and just enjoying our adorable little niece.

Yukon Cornelius

I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet, but, since we're going to be out-of-town all Thanksgiving, and simply because we love Christmas, Jess and I have already begun to celebrate. We've done some shopping, listened to Christmas music, and today, we put up and decorated our tree while watching the original holiday classic: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (the claymation version). It's a great movie starring Rudolph, Santa, reindeer, elves, and of course, Yukon Cornelius (definitely one of the best movie character names ever--right up there with Gladiator's General Maximus Decimus Meridius).
Leave a comment and let me know your favorite Christmas movies.
Blowout

Jessica started her varsity basketball season last night with the Eagles' first game. Several of her girls are pretty new to the game of basketball, so no one was quite sure what to expect. We were hoping they could somehow pull out a win though. Instead, they won by a landslide--76-8. Unreal! It was the quintessence of a blowout.
And for all of you out there who are thinking my wife just ran up the score, let me put your minds at ease. First of all, she never pressed or even played man. She had her girls work the ball around for awhile before they were to take a shot. And, of course, her second and third string girls played the majority of the game. She did everything she could to sort of "back off," aside from telling her girls to purposefully miss their shots (and what coach would do that?). Even still, they kept making everything they threw up there and the other team just kept struggling. The visitors even scored 2 points for us by accidently tipping a ball when trying to get a rebound.
It was a good game for the girls that served as a confidence booster. I'm sure no other game this season will boast such a great point margin, but for now, the TCA Varsity Lady Eagles are 1-0.
